Brannon and I encourage you to check out this new book called Peachtree Creek: A Natural and Unnatural History of Atlanta's Watershed (by David R. Kaufman).
It contains info and photos on the early days of Ponce de Leon Ave., the natural springs (now buried under City Hall East) and Ponce de Leon Park (that was along the lines of Coney Island, back in the day).

Hey Ponce Guy, I saw that book on my last trip to SAV w/ fam-Loved the browse- but, in the middle of downpour so did not go out to retrieve purse to purchase- Family member who is retired from Corps of Engineers remembered UNfondly having to survey Nancy Creek in the (?) early '70s. He said the folks were 'not friendly.' He is a 3rd generation Atlantan of the Ansley Park stripe, so the people must have been emptying slop jars on him to elicit that much comment. Can't wait to get the book-Thanks for reminding me! Come visit the Southside at http://southsideatlantamemories.typepad.com or take a vacation in Panama City FL at wmbb.com>blogs>cracker cat.
Interesting blog! I remember Ponce de Leon Ball Park well from riding the trolley there from Decatur as a kid. The park across the street was before my time, but I've read about it.
I've linked to you from Decatur-DeKalb.com.
Our end of Ponce is not nearly as interesting.
David
